Stop Hoʻopili is a project of

Save Oʻahu Farmlands Alliance
Coming together to protect the land that feeds us

Who Save Oʻahu Farmlands Alliance is:

We are pro-farm, pro-environment, and Hawaiian organizations and individuals, joined together for projects to save Oʻahu farmlands.
(Active members and organizations of the alliance are listed below.)

Mission Statement:

We act to preserve Oʻahu’s farmland for food and energy security – in order to assure access to affordable, fresh, local produce, to promote smart green jobs, to reduce global warming, and to make sustainable and healthy communities possible for generations to come.

Our Goals for the Short Term Future:

We have adopted the prevention of the Hoʻopili development as our current effort.

Support in Other Efforts to Save Oʻahu Farmlands:

The Alliance has been active in the effort to save “The Purple Spot” in the Waiʻanae Sustainable Communities Plan, a large piece of farmland on Lualualei Naval Rd.  We have also worked with groups and individuals in Koʻolauloa to save the farmland that would be taken by the Envision Laʻie development. We have a committee giving oversight to stealth changes being made at the Department of Planning and Permitting to Development Plans and Sustainability Plans.  And we stand ready to work on keeping Koa Ridge in agriculture if and when the developer returns to the Land Use Commission.

Our Goals for the Long Term:

We have taken on the goal of, and begun action on, persuading the Legislature to set a target level of food self-sufficiency for the state by a certain date and to demand that the Legislature impose a moratorium on all new development on farmland in excess of 25 acres until it adopts a credible plan with measurable standards and a fixed timetable to ensure compliance with that target.
