                    Date

                    Land Use Commission
                    P.O. Box 2359
                    Honolulu, Hawaii  96804-2359

IN OPPOSITION TO:  Ho‘opili Development (Docket No. A06-771)

                    Dear Commissioners:

                    Discussion of your points

                    Full name
                    Street Address
                    City, State and Zip Code

                    Talking Points

Tell the Land Use Commission (LUC) to deny D.R. Horton's petition to redistrict the land and build Ho`opili. Here are some points you may wish to make in your own words.
                    • The combination of "prime" A and B soils, ample sunshine, freshwater, infrastructure, and accessibility to markets makes this land so invaluable.
                    • This farmland is central to Hawai'i's food security, growing 30% of our fresh local produce. With Hawai'i currently importing 90% of our food, losing this 'Ewa land would be a major set back for food security.
                    • This development will put our farmers out of work, and will cause a loss of jobs throughout the farm economy.
                    • 'Ewa traffic is already a nightmare.  Ho'opili will put 12,000 more cars on the road, probably more.
                    • Ho'opili will drain our shrinking water resources and could force 'Ewa residents to rely on desalinated seawater (paid for by the taxpayers).
                    • Keep money in Hawai'i!  Growing food locally supports job creation and new businesses in Hawai'i.  Numerous businesses rely on these 'Ewa farms.
